Eric Ekman

Vice President, Development & Acquisitions

As Vice President, Development & Acquisitions, Eric Ekman leads McGuire Development Company’s (MDC) initiatives to acquire new projects, address financing needs, and oversee all development activity across various asset classes, from concept to completion.

Eric has nearly 20 years of experience in handling complex real estate development projects. Most of these efforts have been “redevelopment” in nature and involving environmentally challenged sites that required the use of Historic and Brownfield Tax Credits. Many have incorporated sustainability measures above and beyond conventional practices. In all cases, Eric strives to collaboratively work with stakeholders and adhere to VBT (vision, budget, and timeline).

Before joining MDC, Eric was the Director of Development at Berkeley Investments in Boston, MA, where he led a variety of historic rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, and new construction infill projects involving office, residential, and retail uses. Notably, Eric oversaw the Watch Factory project from initial concept to successful completion, which transformed a 400,000-square-foot historic factory complex in Waltham, MA along the Charles River.

Eric has served in the United States Marine Corps, received his undergraduate degree from the University at Buffalo in Geography and Environmental Design, and worked as the Town Planner for Westford, MA. He also received a Master’s in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Eric currently sits on the Design Review Committee for the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy and previously served on boards throughout his career that involved affordable housing creation and river and watershed advocacy.
