David Von Derau

As  President  and Chief Operating Officer for the McGuire Development Company, David Von Derau is responsible for making groundbreaking ideas a reality and is directly responsible for the company’s Asset Management, Property Management, and Acquisition/Development service lines. David and his teams are responsible for over $360M of assets under management from office, medical, educational, warehouse, industrial, commercial, residential, and a robust development pipeline. He also serves as the Owner’s Representative on consulting projects for clients, conducting proactive design reviews and ensuring that their contracts with project sub-consultants are fair and equitable and adhere to the project VBT (vision, budget, and timeline).

David has nearly 20 years of healthcare experience and more than 35 years of experience in construction, including residential, commercial, heavy highway, and complex healthcare construction. As a real estate expert and Project Manager, he has successfully managed numerous complex construction processes. He fully embraces MDC’s signature transparent process and effectively ensures that his projects are completed on time and on or under budget.

David credits his success to the values instilled by his family. His streetwise, never-quit attitude propelled him from the front lines to the executive boardroom. That unconventional path to success taught him to care personally and challenge the status quo. David manages and builds with passion and confidence while listening with humility.

David graduated from SUNY Potsdam and obtained his M.B.A. from Empire State College.

David is involved in many organizations. He is a past president of the WNY chapter of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers, member of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute Prostate Cancer Awareness Planning Committee, co-founder of Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s Cruisin’ for a Cure event, member of the Construction Exchange of Buffalo & WNY, member of Upstate NY Chapter of NAOIP, member of the East Aurora Chamber of Commerce, member of the Aerials subcommittee and certified official for the United States Ski and Snowboard, Program Director for the Buffalo Ski Club – Freestyle Team, and member of the Buffalo Civic Auto Ramps Board of Directors.
