As Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McGuire Development Company, Jim McGuire has worked to build a unique business model that challenges the status quo of the commercial real estate and development industry, with a focus on transparent communication and an open book process. Since 2005, when McGuire Development was established as the reinvigorated development arm of The McGuire Group, along with his friend and professional colleague, Jim Dentinger, the company has firmly established itself as a strong competitor in the real estate industry. As a result, McGuire Development has been intimately involved in the resurgence of real estate in the Buffalo Niagara region as well as throughout the United States with millions of square feet in all aspects of real estate from medical office buildings to industrial space to high-tech development.
Jim McGuire also serves as CEO of The McGuire Group, a portfolio of privately held companies, employing more than 2,300 individuals and generating $200 million in revenues. Under his leadership, The McGuire Group has invested millions in the redevelopment and expansion of its programs and facilities, turning its traditional health care settings into state-of-the-art environments for intensive short-term rehabilitation. Over the years, The McGuire Group’s programs have grown in scope and complexity from 24-hour skilled nursing care to subacute & outpatient rehabilitation, secured memory care units, Journeys palliative care and respite/short-term care for individuals seeking temporary options for a loved one.
Jim’s early work in the family companies began in 1984 as an electrician’s apprentice and carpenter in Western New York and Alaska. He left the companies to pursue a B.S. from Rochester Institute of Technology and spent five years with W.L. Gore and Associates before returning to his roots in 1996. Increasing responsibility in all aspects of the companies culminated in the role of CEO in 2002.
Under Jim’s leadership, both companies have continued to grow and prosper. Diverse experience in operations, finance and marketing allows for a unique perspective and understanding of the customers’ need for quality, cost effective products and services that provide a return on investment.
As an entrepreneur and community volunteer, Jim is continuously pioneering new industry initiatives and projects. He is co-founder of 43 x 79; has served on the boards of Buffalo Niagara Enterprise and Coordinated Care; and has co-chaired several fund-raisers for the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY. In addition, Jim has been recognized as a Volunteer of the Year by the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY and received the 2013 Trustees Reflections Award from Trocaire College.
